Athena Beads

These beads are one of my newest passions.  I love making these ladies!  I love the process of creating the female form and sculpting all of the details.  The basic idea of goddess beads is as ancient as time itself.  These talismans have been worn throughout time to promote fertility in many cultures.  Also, the idea of goddesses used in protection have been just as common in many civilizations.

I decided on the name "Athena" for my goddess beads because of the way I sculpt them.  The majority of them have a pronounced arch in their back which reminded myself and many others of ancient ship figureheads.  After a little research, I discovered that many of those figureheads were carved in the likeness of the Goddess Athena - the goddess of wisdom  .  It seemed only fitting that my beads should be graced with the same name.

I began making these beads after seeing an experiment by another lampworker that I was very inspired by   (thanks, Mr. Flamewerks).   After a few experiments of my own,   I was only going to make enough for my women friends, but my passion for creating these took over and I now have many too many .

I created these to remind women that each one of you is a goddess in her own right, and to let them know that the strength and wisdom that lies within them is stronger than maybe even they know.  This is a perfect gift for any woman who needs to be reminded of this  (and isn't bothered by a naked woman around her neck).   They are especially poignant for pregnant women or new moms who might need a little boost of energy and confidence!   I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!  Thanks for looking!!

A uniquely colored Athena.  She is a light lavender-blue from her head to the middle of her torso where she gradiently changes to a deep, rich amethyst.  She is adorned with a cluster of grapes on her hip and the curled vine rests on her belly above her bellybutton.

I've named this one my Ice Athena.  She is created with a pale , but not quite clear glass and coated with a reactive frit that produces many effects all over the piece.  She is opaque in some spots and translucent in others.

SOLD - Thank you!

This Athena is simply a stunner!  Made from deep, vibrant Cranberry glass and draped in a light pink translucent vine to accentuate her very sensual form.  Heavily arched in her back, she measures 1 $ 1/2" from head to torso and 6/8" across

SOLD - Thank you!

My newest experiment with my Athenas, "Leaf Athenas"!  Light-catching topaz glass mottled with fall colors and a leafy skirt really make her stand out - not to mention her size -2" from head to skirt & 3/4" wide.  $22

This amethyst Athena glows in the light.  She has a bit wider arms as she was made on a 3/32" mandrel.  She is donning a cluster of purple and white leaves on her hip and two of them adorn her head.  She stands 1 3/4" (40mm) tall and is 3/4" at her shoulders.    $18

This XL Athena is luminous in transparent medium green glass.  The is a step up in size from my normal Athenas after a few requests for larger ones.  She is draped in an opaque green vine - some leaves have red tips.  She stands nearly 2" (50mm) and is 3/4"(30mm) w at her shoulders and her hips are 1/2"(20mm) w.  $22

Made from whispy purple gaffer glass and adorned with authentic gold leaf, this Athena is just gorgeous!  She measures approx. 1 & 1/2" long and 3/4" wide   $25

This extremely well endowed Athena is more of a fun loving sort.  She is mixed with a confetti of colors - blue, pink, and green brought out by a mint green base.  She measures approx. 1 & 1/2" long  and 3/4" at her shoulders.    $17

Stunning vanilla Athena draped with a dramatic red vine.  She stands 1 & 5/8" tall and is 3/4" wide at her shoulders.

  SOLD - Thank you!
